sophie ruth graves was born on a cold day in january, to young parents roy and emily graves. her mother named her, always wanting a little girl named sophie. the middle name, ruth, was a tribute to sophie’s grandmother, ruth aldine, who died before sophie was born.
in the beginning, everything was great despite the young age of the new parents. sophie was a fairly easy child, happy with what she had and didn’t demand much. even from a young age, she was overly polite, always remembering to add please and thank you to every sentence. not because anyone told her to do that, but because it just came naturally.
sophie was five when her parents divorced, and the happy spiel that had been cast over the tiny family was quickly shattered. her father, a police officer, worked a lot and the relationship faded away slowly but surely. sophie would often ask her mother about her dad’s whereabouts, when she could see him, when she could spend time with her. it was not until sophie turned ten, when her dad had an injury in line of duty that things changed to the better again. though it wasn’t life threatening, the injury still brought them closer together again, something which sophie cherished. she’d often come visit him, and go with him to his physical therapy appointment when time and school (and her mom) allowed it.
when she was twelve, she noticed that her eyesight was starting to deteriorate, leaving her with a blurry vision. in the end, after a visit to the optician, sophie got her first pair of glasses. in the beginning she wouldn't use them at school, afraid of being teased, but after a while she grew confident enough to wear them in front of her classmates. the older she got, the worse her eyesight became. when she was twenty, her nearsightedness was so severe that she felt completely blind whenever she didn't wear her contacts, that she decided to give lasik a chance. now, her vision is back to normal and she no longer needs glasses or contact lenses.

Ruth Aldine, the blind, telepathic, prescient later known as Blindfold was a student at the Xavier Institute. Hated and feared like many other Mutants, and seen as an abomination by her elder brother, Luca. It resulted with him wanting to kill her, mistakenly however, he failed and killed Ruth's mother, the deceased body of which she was found next to. Later on in life towards her teenage years and finally learning to control her Mutant gifts while becoming more confident within herself, a fatal trip to her brother's death-row trial left Ruth Aldine scarred for life.
She was taken to the Xavier Institute as a teenager where she would learn to harness her precognitive and telepathic abilities.
